AFTERNOON EXPERIENCE INSTRUCTIONS
- 01Location: Sienna Living; 1800 O'Connor Dr., Building 2, Toronto, ON., M4A 1W7 Arrival Time: 1:30pm - 4pm On-site Contact: Hali Fitzpatrick; (416) 285-2000; hali.fitzpatrick@siennaliving.ca Afternoon Experience Instructions: Today you will be visiting seniors and providing companionship, engaging in conversation or even participating in simple activities with Hali. Theme: Our theme today is SEEING others the way God sees them. As you learn about those who may feel the effects of marginalization and be looked down upon by others, ask Jesus to help you SEE others the way HE SEES them…as dearly loved and valued! Pray as a group that God would use you to show His love and kindness to the people you come in contact with today. Some may be believers, others may not, but don’t be afraid to engage people in conversation. Please make sure to bring your water bottles and proper footwear for your time today. Have a great afternoon, and don’t forget to get together and debrief after your time at Sienna Living!
- 02Location 1: Yonge Eglinton Centre, 2300 Yonge St., Toronto, ON M4P 1E4 (Food Court in front of the Tim Hortons; meet at 1:30pm) On-site Contact: Dion Oxford; dionoxford@gmail.com Afternoon Experience: Today you will be out on a street walk in the heart of midtown Toronto with Dion. He also lives with Multiple Sclerosis and can no longer walk so uses a motorized wheelchair to get around. He is an advocate on behalf of people in the margins of society, and is an accomplished public speaker on the topic of housing, homelessness and disabilities. Theme: Our theme today is LISTENING. Ask Jesus to help you to LISTEN to people the way HE LISTENS to you….with patience and understanding. Seek to really hear the needs of the people you come in contact with today. Pray as a group that God would use you to show His love and kindness to the people you come in contact with today. Some may be believers, others may not, but don’t be afraid to engage people in conversation. Please make sure to bring your water bottles and proper footwear for your walk today. Have a great afternoon, and don’t forget to get together and debrief after your time with Dion!
- 03Location: Thompson ParkOn-site Contact: N/AAfternoon Experience Instructions: Today you will be sharing the good news of the Gospel with people around Thompson Park. Strike up a conversation and share the love of Christ with the people you meet today! Theme: Our theme today is SHARING. Sharing our faith means first sharing our lives and investing in the lives of others too; authentically caring for them. Ask Jesus to give you wisdom and courage today as you SHARE and interact with others. Pray that God would prepare the way for you to have real conversations about faith with people who you meet today. Sometimes we share through your actions, like earlier in the week, today you may have the chance to share your story of faith and the truth of the GOSPEL with people…take every opportunity!Here are a few ways you can start that conversation:Hi my name is _____________, and this is ________________. We're out with our youth group wanting to hear people's stories. It's World Cup, what team are you rooting for and why? (this could lead to a prayer for their country of origin)Hi my name is _____________, and this is ________________. We're in the city today with our youth group wondering if there's anything you would like prayer for?Hi my name is _____________, and this is ________________. We're learning about serving others this week, would you like a water bottle.Hi my name is _____________, and this is ________________. We're a Christian youth group out to pray for people today. Can we pray for you? Is there a stress in your life, and how can I pray for it?Hi my name is _____________, and this is ________________. We're with a Christian group learning about listening to people's stories, would you be willing to share your story with us? Could we also tell you what we've been learning this week? Pray as a group that God would use your group to speak truth and life into the people you meet today. Some may be believers, others might not, but don’t be afraid to engage people in conversation.
